Candida Albicans(known as Candida) is a fungal pathogen, a form of yeast which inhabits the digestive tract. It occurs primarily in the mouth, large, and small intestines. Since this pathogen feeds primarily off of sugar and unrefined(white) carbohydrates, it’s important to reduce consumption of these two things.  A candida diet food list can found further down in the article.


In addition to a yeast elimination diet, there are also a couple important steps you can take to ensure you beat this overgrowth for good. Most people who start a candida diet have great success for the first couple weeks, but soon find that they can’t eat normal foods again without experiencing constant yeast infections and relapses in progress.

Foods To Avoid:

  • Sugary, starchy foods(white flour, etc)
  • Alcohol(directly feeds pathogens)
  • Fruit should be eaten in limited quantities(berries are best)
  • Starchy vegetables(potatoes)
  • Dairy products(milk, cheese)
  • Peanuts(contains lots of toxic mold)
  • Oils such as corn oil, soy oil, and peanut oil.(highly inflamatory and lowers the immune system)
  • Mushrooms(mold source)
  • Beans(very starchy and hard to digest, can be re-introduced later)

It’s important to understand how the immune system protects us from yeast like candida, that way we know how to optimize it.

The immune system has two different methods of attack. It all starts with Th0 cells, which are unformed immune cells- these cells are just waiting for an invader. Once an infection occurs they convert to either Th1 or Th2 immune cells.


Th1 immune cells attack organisms which get inside our cells(such as viruses, cancer, and yeast). Th2 cells attacks organisms located outside our cells, such as in the bloodstream or bodily fluids.

The immune system is not very good at using both attacks at once, it is generally either in a Th1 dominant mode, or Th2 dominant mode.

Candida has been shown to send “fake messages” to the immune system, telling it to switch to a Th2 dominant mode, this prevents the immune system from being able to attack it(with a Th1 response) effectively!

Omega 3’s are found primarily in fish oil, but due to the high mercury content in most fish, it’s a good idea to get them in a distilled, supplement form.       It’s recommended to start slow. Most people start with 1 pill twice per day in between meals, and work up to 2-3 pills 3x day between meals, under the supervision of your physician.
